About Numis Trust
What is Numis Trust?
Numis Trust is a 100% Canadian owned digital asset custody provider. We bring custody accounts, transaction approvals and operational oversight into one platform, helping clients see what they hold and manage how their secured assets can be moved.
Who does Numis Trust serve?
Numis serves institutions and individuals who meet the accredited investor criteria. Clients may include financial institutions, corporate treasury teams, asset managers, pension funds, family offices and eligible private clients. Our team can help you understand the requirements and discuss your custody needs. Contact our team to learn more.
Is Numis Trust regulated?
Yes. Numis Trust is an Alberta trust company regulated by Alberta Treasury Board and Finance. Our custody services operate within the scope of our licence and applicable regulatory requirements. Learn more about our company.
What makes Numis different from other digital custodians?
Numis brings custody accounts, approval workflows and transaction records into one workspace. Your team can see holdings, set wallet approval requirements and follow transfers from the initial request through Numis processing. The platform supports one-, two- and three-user client approval paths, with permissions that define who can prepare and approve transactions. A shared view of pending actions, approval history and processing status helps your team coordinate work and maintain clear records.
What is digital asset custody?
Digital asset custody concerns who controls the private keys used to authorize transactions and who is responsible for safeguarding and administering the assets. The assets remain recorded on the blockchain. With third-party custody, a custodian manages the key material and processes to authorize transactions on the client’s behalf under a custody agreement. Custody can use hot or cold wallets; the storage method is one part of the overall security arrangements.
Why do institutions use a regulated custodian?
Institutions use a regulated custodian to help safeguard assets and establish accountability for how they are held and moved. The relationship combines regulatory oversight and defined responsibilities with access controls, transaction approval requirements and records that can be reviewed. These arrangements support internal governance, due diligence and audit preparation. The custody agreement explains how assets are held and the responsibilities of the client and custodian.
Custody and Approvals
How does Numis help keep client assets secure?
Numis combines user permissions, multi-factor authentication, configured approval requirements and operational review to control access and asset movements. Onboarding includes identity verification for individuals and business verification for organizations, commonly called KYC and KYB. Destination screening and recorded transaction activity support ongoing oversight. Your account or wallet settings determine the client approvals required before Numis reviews and processes a transfer. Learn more about our security controls.
What type of wallets does Numis Offer?
Numis offers two wallet types:
- Custody wallets (cold): Designed for holdings that move less frequently, with key material kept offline.
- Transactional wallets (hot): Designed for more frequent transfers, using online signing infrastructure.
Both are provided through Numis’s custody service. Numis manages the key material, and transfers follow your configured approval requirements and the applicable operational controls.
Which digital assets does Numis support?
Numis supports Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Ankr (ANKR), Cardano (ADA), Dogecoin (DOGE), Filecoin (FIL), Litecoin (LTC), XRP, Shiba Inu (SHIB), Solana (SOL), Synthetix (SNX), The Sandbox (SAND), Toncoin (TON) and USDC.
Supported blockchain networks also include Base. Availability varies by asset and network. Contact our team to confirm supported combinations and deposit instructions before transferring assets.
How do transaction approvals work?
When you set up your account or wallet, you choose who can start transactions and which approvals are required. To make a transfer, sign in, choose the source wallet and approved destination, enter the asset and amount, and submit the request. Any required approvers then sign in to review and approve it. Once those approvals are complete, Numis reviews and processes the transfer. You can follow its progress in your transaction history.
Does every transaction require three people?
No. Numis supports one-, two- and three-user client approval settings. With one user, the initiator submits the request for Numis processing. With two users, a separate user approves it. With three users, one user initiates and two different users approve. The approval path follows your account or wallet configuration, and Numis’s operational processing follows the required client steps.
Operations and Platform
What does operational oversight mean at Numis?
Operational oversight is the review and processing Numis carries out after the required client approvals. It connects your authorized request to the steps needed to process the transfer. You can follow its progress in the platform and return to the transaction record to see the recorded actions and final status.
Does an approved transaction mean the assets have already moved?
No. Client approval is one step in the process. Numis must also review and process the transfer, and blockchain transfers require network confirmation. You can open your transaction history in the Numis platform and select the transaction to view its approvals, current status and completion details. A blockchain transaction reference is included when available.
Can different team members have different permissions?
Yes. Numis uses role-based permissions to control which actions a user can take. Responsibilities such as preparing and approving transactions can be assigned to the appropriate people, alongside the account’s configured approval requirements.
Can transfers be restricted to approved destinations?
Yes. Numis supports approved destination controls. External wallet addresses go through operational and compliance review before activation for transfers, including anti-money-laundering and applicable sanctions screening. Screening results and any identified high-risk activity are reviewed as part of that process. These controls help your team govern where assets can be sent. Learn more about destination controls.
Can I view my custody accounts and transactions in one place?
Yes. Our dashboard brings together custody accounts, wallet balances, pending actions and transaction status. Your team can see holdings and activity in one place, with access determined by each user’s permissions. You can also view and filter transaction history, then download the results in CSV or Excel format for further review.
How does Numis support reporting and audit preparation?
Numis maintains an audit trail of transaction activity, including recorded approvals, timestamps and processing status. You can open transaction records in the platform to review how a transfer progressed, filter the history to focus on the activity you need, and download transaction history in CSV or Excel format. These records support finance, operations and compliance teams with reporting and audit preparation. Learn more about transaction history.
Can Numis integrate with our existing systems?
Yes. Numis offers API access for supported account and transaction functions, using credentials with defined permissions. Our team can discuss the available capabilities, access requirements and how they fit your systems and custody workflows. Contact us to discuss an integration.
